IT was brought up in a discussion in class whether saying the N word was appropriate to say in music and in television. Now in my opinion in believe that its is not the word but the context it is put in. I personally have used the word in my language but i kind of know when it is somewhat appropriate time to say it for example, i am Latino and have no problem saying it to my Latino friends, but you never know that if i say it to one of my black friends if they would get offended or not, event though I’ve heard them say it as well. It is really on who you are talking to because black people often use it to call their friends.
I am Salvadorian, and there is this term that is usually used to describe them, cerrote, now I dont really care if they call me that and i know that when they say it to me a lot of times is to make fun of me. Now i know that the N word has a deep background to it but now a days the word has been sweetened in a sense. You cant live a day without hearing that word or reading that word. When on Facebook s0me greetings start with something like, Whats up my n***, or something of that sort, and when used mostly never is it meant to insult the other it has now taken the meaning of friend or close person.
If people get offended by the word it is very understandable, and it would be rather wise to not use it when in their presence, or to refer to them or to greet them or anything of that sort. So it is best to be wise and try to take it out of our vocabulary because we never know who we could offend. Overall, the word has a very negative connotation, and word shouldnt be used as often as it is, and we do hear it a lot; in personal relationships, social networks, tv and radio as well.
